Creating sketches is good practice and sharpens your visual perceptions along with drawing skills. Try it, you will like it.
I've not had the pleasure of taking a sketching course with artist Danny Gregory, but he is someone that seems good to learn from. For now I am on my own but I will do this daily if possible.
